Watch the 2012 Australian Open streamed live from Melbourne from January 16 – 23.
We are very excited for the first Grand Slam of 2012 and with good reason. Not only is it a historic event celebrating the 100th anniversary of the tournament but it looks set to be one of the most competitive major tournaments in recent times.
A number of new stars emerged on the women’s tour in 2011 with Na Li, Petra Kvitova and Sam Stosur picking up their first Grand Slam titles. All three will be keen to make a move at the start of the new season while established stars like Kim Clijsters and Maria Sharapova will no doubt be as strong as ever.
In 2011, Novak Djokovic finally made the transition from contender to global superstar with his incredible season and there is no reason why it can’t continue in 2012 as he looks unbeatable right now. Major tournaments, however, often spring up surprises and with the top four pushing men’s tennis to stratospheric levels, any lapses could see the door opening for someone else.
Andy Murray will be desperate to finally strike gold in Melbourne after two near misses over the past couple of years and all eyes will be on his new coaching relationship with legendary eight-time Grand Slam champion Ivan Lendl.
